Notes: The inventor of Sherlock Holmes imagines an English expedition to South America, where prehistoric creatures are discovered. The book is at least loosely based on the efforts of the journalist Henry Morton Stanley to find David Livingstone in Africa.

Edition + Condition: First US edition (with no additional printings indicated and the publisher's logo on the title page). Previous owner's name inside, spine ends somewhat worn, and small stain at top of front board,, else a very good copy in the original brown cloth stamped in gilt.
