Notes: Hanzlicek, with Philip Levine, made the poetry faculty at Fresno State University a center for working class poets in California.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Inscribed by the author to fellow poet Mark Strand: "For Mark, After eleven years, we once again live in the same city. Fresno is just an oversized Iowa City without a Paul Engle. Thank God for large favors! With much affection, Chuck."
Engle was the director of the Iowa Writers Workshop when Hanzlicek was a student and Strand was on the faculty. Strand was a visiting professor at Fresno State the year this book was published. A nice association copy, with an inscription that reveals a hint of the backbiting among professional poets that is both widespread and kept from public view.
Publication: Columbia, MO: Univ of Missouri Press, 1977.
