Edition + Condition: Third printing. A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with the Newbery award sticker on the front cover. This copy is inscribed by the author to a book reviewer: "For Bryce, fellow book louse, Paul Fleischman 1989."

Laid into this copy is a letter from the publisher's PR department to the reviewer, sending a copy of the book; a four-page brochure about Paul Fleischman; a four-page brochure about this book publicizing its winning of the Newbery, and a single sheet program for the Newbery, Caldecott, and Wilder awards banquet. The ephemera is folded for insertion into the book.
