This edition includes a critical introduction tracing the history of Columbus's journal and the history of Cuban editions of it.
This is an early Papiro title, issued a year after they began printing on their handmade papers. The only illustration is a block print by Reinaldo E. Rodríguez on the cover. The entire book is printed in red ink. The binding is wrappers stab-sewn with coarse jute cord.
