Conversación con los difuntos [Conversations with the Dead]

Notes: 181 pages plus [4] leaves. 8 by 10-1/2 inches. One of 200 signed copies. Colección Clásicos.

Diego (1920–1994) was a Cuban poet in the Origenes group. This is one of his last books, a personal collection of classic poems in English, each reprinted with an introductory essay and Diego's Spanish translation. The book was published in Spain and Mexico in 1991. This is the first Cuban edition.

The book is mimeographed on estraza paper with illustrations by Hiram Aguiar Hernández de Alba. Issued with a handmade bookmark with the book's title and author.

This is one of the most substantial productions from Vigía during the Special Period. It was also the book that gained the press attention outside of Cuba. When Diego won the Premio Juan Rulfo in 1993, he presented a copy of this book to the president of Mexico. The press photograph of the event showed the book in the president's hand and it was widely published throughout Latin America.
