Notes: A classic, wonderful Max image in the artist's trademark early 1970s Pop-Art style. This image shows a man prostrate before a guru sitting on a rock. This silkscreen (or serigraph) is printed in eight colors, with the split fountain technique used for the guru's form. (Split fountain is a silkscreen technique where two colors are printed so they fade into one another, a sign of a master printer. This image was printed by Peter Baum, a long-time collaborator with Peter Max.) 30 by 22 inches. One of 100 copies.
Peter Max (born in Germany in 1937) lived in China and then Israel before immigrating to the United States. In the 1960s, he quickly became known for his psychedelic or "cosmic" images. He has been the official artist of the World Cup, the Grammy Awards, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Super Bowl, and the World Series.
