This version was issued to coincide with the release of the Penny Marshall film starring Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. The cover is based on the artwork for the movie poster.

Edition + Condition: First printing of this edition (with a numberline ending in 1). This copy is inscribed by Sacks to a National Book Award-winning evolutionist, "For Stephen Jay Gould, with great admiration and gratitude for all your writings. Oliver Sacks." Sacks and Gould became good friends and there is an online video interview with Sacks describing his friendship with Gould.

Signed copies of Awakenings are uncommon. Association copies are very scarce. With a bookplate documenting that this book came from Gould's Harvard office library.
