Slaughterhouse-five: Or the Children's Crusade, A Duty-Dance with Death [Signed Franklin Library]
Notes: A reissue of Vonnegut's classic anti-war novel, with a one-page introduction first published in this edition. This edition was signed by Vonnegut and bound in traditional Franklin Library style: gilt-decorated leather, moire endpapers, silk bookmark, etc.
Vonnegut brings his dark humor to tell—"more or less"—the story of one of the worst moments of World War II, the Dresden firebombing, which he survived as a German prisoner of war. In the novel, the event is so traumatic that the central character, Billy Pilgrim, becomes unmoored from time and drifts through his life out of chronological order. Also there are space aliens.
Edition + Condition: A fine copy in brown leather decorated in gilt. The endpapers have very light fading to the edges (a common issue with this book). Signed by Vonnegut on a preliminary page. With the Editor's Notes booklet and the original cardstock sleeve with the author and title handwritten on the front panel.
Publication: Franklin Center, PA: The Franklin Library, 1978.
