Handprinted Mid-century Modern Wallpapers

[Sample Book] Craftsmanship in Wallpaper

Notes: An English mid-century modern wallpaper sample book with 100 examples of the John Line and Sons handprinted papers from about 1950. With designs credited to William J. Odell, Jacqueline Groag, Georges Dupon, G. Fisher-Jones, and others.

The catalog is undated, but it bears the royal warrant of appointment to his majesty the king, dating it before 1952, when Queen Elizabeth assumed the throne. Stylistically, the patterns seem post-war, hence the dating. The Victoria and Albert Museum has a book of Line wallpaper samples from 1951, which includes Groag's Kiddies' Town pattern, a sample of which is also present in this book.

10 by 7-1/2 inches.

Edition + Condition: Covers a bit grubby; final sample with a bit of foxing, else near fine, with bright colors.

Publication: [London?]: Line Wallpapers, (n.d. but ca. 1950).
