A Woman Over 100 Years Old [Stereoview]

Forsyth, N. A.

Notes: A stereoview showing three Native women in a lean-to made of tree branches and blankets. In the center is a very old woman wearing a fabric shift and an ornately decorated belt.

Most stereoviews by Norman A. Forsyth (1869–1949) are described as depicting the Blackfeet tribe, but the Montana Historical Society (Forsyth stereograph 335) identifies this as one of just four Cree images made by the photographer in this format.

This stereoview does not have a makers mark but it is a known Forsyth image.

The mount measures 7 by 3-1/2 inches, with the albumen silver prints (two per mount) about 3-1/8 inches square. The caption, printed below the right image, appears to be an ink stamp.

Edition + Condition: The left photograph is significantly lighter along the top edge than the rest of the two photographs, which otherwise have good focus and contrast.

Publication: [Butte, MT]: [N. A. Forsyth], [ca. 1910].
