A Japanese American Newspaper Reviews the US-Japan Relationship

The Japanese American Year Book / Nichibei nenkan: Number 11, 1915

Notes: An overview of relations between Japan and the United States just before World War I, with emphasis on the Japanese in America. Topics covered include California's recent alien land law, which prohibited Japanese ownership of real estate, Japan-US military tensions, and agricultural statistics for Japanese farmers in the US. The final section is a directory of Japanese farmers in California. There is also coverage of the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition (PPIE). This series, which evolved into a straight directory, was compiled by the staff of the Nichibei Shimbun newspaper in San Francisco.

The Nichibei Shimbun was published by Abiko Kyutaro, the Japanese immigrant behind the semi-utopian Yamato Colony in California's Central Valley.
