The Biggest Bear

Notes: The 1953 Caldecott Medal winner and Ward's most popular children's book, a story about a small boy who adopts a bear cub and what happens as they both grow up.

Edition + Condition: This copy is a 13th printing, probably from the early-1960s based on the $3.40 price. It is in the "Dolphin Library Binding", which used wood-free paper and glazed pictorial boards as a binding for durability. The jacket is clipped at the top (to remove the trade price, preserving the Dolphin Binding price at the bottom of the front flap, as issued). The book is near fine. The jacket has some small tears at the corners, a Dolphin Binding sticker at the base of the spine, and a Caldecott Medal sticker on the front panel.

The book is inscribed by Ward opposite the title page, "For Ted Lord, with every good wish from Lynd Ward." Signed copies of The Biggest Bear are hard to find.

Publication: Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., (ca. 1960s).
