Item No: #308383 One Day, When I Was Lost: A Scenario Based on The Autobiography of Malcolm X [Uncorrected Proof]. James Baldwin.

Scarce Baldwin Proof

One Day, When I Was Lost: A Scenario Based on The Autobiography of Malcolm X [Uncorrected Proof]

Notes: An uncommon tall proof, preceding the first edition of this "scenario" or unproduced screenplay based on Alex Haley's The Autobiography of Malcolm X. This screenplay was the starting point for Spike Lee's biopic Malcolm X, starring Denzel Washington, but the Baldwin estate didn't want James Baldwin's name on the film (though it does appear on the printed version of the script by Spike Lee).

The book was first published in the UK, prior to this US edition. The proof is very scarce.

5 by 11 inches. iv, 189 pages, printed rectos (front side) only.

Edition + Condition: Uncorrected proof in green wrappers, with mesh on the spine, as issued. Covers irregularly faded, else near fine.

Publication: New York: Dial Press, 1973.
