Inscribed to Texas Author Margaret Cousins

Shaker, Why Don't You Sing?

Notes: The author's fourth collection of poetry.

Edition + Condition: First edition (stated, with a numberline ending in 2, as was Random House's practice for marking first printings). A very good copy in a very good dust jacket, with a short tear at the top of the spine.

This copy is inscribed by Angelou on the front free endpaper to the writer and editor (of LBJ's memoirs, among other books), Margaret Cousins. "Maggie Cousins, Joy! and Write on! & on. Maya Angelou. 10/10/85." Cousins then gave the book to someone else, inscribing the book on the back (verso) of Angelou's inscription, "Dear Julia—Maya Angelou and I want you to have this book—Love Margaret Cousins. November 26, 1985."

Publication: New York: Random House, 1983.
