Inscribed by Carver to His Brother?

Portraits

Notes: A collection of black-and-white images with a moving biographical essay by Raymond Carver about his childhood and his father, a text that compliments rather than comments on Burke's photographs.

59 pages. 9-1/2 by 12-1/2 inches. Preface by Andy Grundberg.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A very good copy in a very good dust jacket. There is some foxing to the back (verso) of the dust jacket and light wear to the corners. This copy is signed by Raymond Carver and then inscribed, "For James and Norma from Ray. June 1988. Pt. Angeles." This book was signed just two months before Carver died, on August 2, 1988, probably to Carver's brother James and his sister-in-law Norma.

Carver's essay, which is a short, chronological memoir about his childhood and early adult years, does not mention his brother James.

Publication: New York: The Ecco Press, 1987.
