Studio Views [Portfolio of Photographs]

Burns, Michael

Notes: A suite of ten silver gelatin contact prints mounted on acid-free museum board with a window overmat. These 8 by 10 photographs were made early in Burns' career, when he worked with a large-format view camera and belong to a series of detailed, enigmatic architectural studies exploring the play of oblique light and shadow on objects sitting on his studio floor.

Burns (b. 1942) is from Lubbock, Texas. He earned a BFA in painting at the University of Washington and an MFA at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He now lives in the Pacific Northwest and has exhibited in many museums in the region. He is married to the photographer Marsha Burns.

Silver gelatin prints, 8 by 10 inches. Mats, 17 by 14 inches. With two separate printed sheets laid in, one serving as the title page and the other as a colophon. The whole enclosed in an 18 by 16 by 2-1/2 inch clamshell box covered in coarse cloth.

This is one of 45 copies (there were also six proofs). The colophon is signed and numbered as are the versos of each mat.

Edition + Condition: The images and mats are fine. The clamshell box has a bit of soiling to the corners and a bit of fading.

Publication: Seattle, WA: (the artist), 1981.
