Neonomicon [Signed, Limited]

Notes: The hardcover graphic novel collection of illustrated stories inspired by H. P. Lovecraft, including Neonomicon issues 1 to 4, and the adaptation of Moore's short story, The Courtyard. Jacen Burroughs illustrates all five sequences. This is one of 200 copies signed by Moore and Burroughs on a tipped-in leaf with a different cover design from the trade issues. The limitation is printed on the back cover.

Moore is, unquestionably, the most influential comic book writer of the current era. As the Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel noted, "he brought a special kind of attention to what it meant to be a comics auteur without being an artist." In the case of his re-imagining of Lovecraft in Neonomicon, "The aim of these stories is to subvert the source material, to deconstruct it so that it reveals something that is largely disguised in the original.... The Lovecraft inspired stories that Moore has written reveal the themes of racism, fear of the unknown, and anxiety about sexuality that haunt Lovecraft’s work. Moore’s appropriation of Lovecraft’s themes and the mythology that has grown up around his work does a willful violence to the source material" (Cambridge History).

Moore's signature is relatively scarce and given his popularity, the limitation for this book is particularly small. In fact, the Grand Comics Database has 32 entries for various issues of Neonomicon, but this signed, limited edition remains unrecorded.
