Persepolis

Notes: The first US edition of Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel (originally published as two volumes in France) about her childhood in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Persepolis is widely considered one of the most important graphic novels, pairing simple but distinctive graphics with a beguiling narrative from a child's perspective. The Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel devotes chapter 25 to Satrapi and mostly to Persepolis.

The book has sold more than 1 million copies in English translation but the first printing was not large, as Satrapi was an unknown first-time author and the book was translated. Basis of the film of the same name.

153 pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing with a numberline ending in 1). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. Signed by Satrapi on the title page, and uncommon thus.

Publication: New York: Pantheon, 2003.
