Original Miro Pochoir

Aidez l'espagna in Cahiers d'art, 12th year, no. 4–5

Notes: One of the most sought-after issues of this French art magazine directed by Christian Zervos, which includes an original Spanish Civil War-themed color pochoir print by Joan Miró. The title of this image translates as "Help Spain" and is more figurative than Miró's typical abstract Surrealist style, but it's defiant image of a Catalan man raising his fist in defiance of Franco's fascist forces still has compelling immediacy.

The bulk of this issue is devoted to Picasso and is illustrated with black-and-white reproductions of his work.

The Miro image is printed on a single large folding sheet, with the image printed on one of the four pages. 9-3/4 by 12-1/2 inches.

Edition + Condition: A particularly nice copy of the magazine, with minor soiling to the covers. The Miró pochoir is bright and still intact (most have long since been removed and trimmed). There is a hint of foxing to one edge.

Publication: Paris: Editions "Cahiers d'Art" 1937.
