The Joy of Lesbian Sex: A Tender and Liberated Guide to the Pleasures and Problems of a Lesbian Lifestyle

Notes: Following the huge success of Alex Comfort's Joy of Sex (1972), the publisher commissioned similar volumes devoted to gay and lesbian sex and published them in 1977. For the mid-1970s, putting books celebrating gay and lesbian sex into mainstream bookstores was a pretty radical notion. While the Joy of Sex and the Joy of Gay Sex remain in print, "The Joy of Lesbian Sex created little stir among lesbians" (Lillian Faderman, Odd Girls and Twillight Lovers, p. 353). The title introduces the "problems" of lesbian life, a subject not included in the titles of the straight or gay entries in the series.

The authors were a psychologist (Sisley) and a lesbian novelist (meaning that she was both a lesbian and a writer of lesbian-themed fiction).
