"In preparing this edition, the work has been thoroughly revised, a large amount of new matter and many new illustrations have been added; a bolder-faced type has been used, and the size of the page increased."
Illustrated with 388 in-text illustrations (up from 342 in the 1872 first edition). The final 34 pages are devoted to the price-lists of microscopes and accessories offered by various firms. These lists appear to have been compiled by Cutter in 1879.

Edition + Condition: Second American edition (first printing). A very good or better copy in publisher's cloth (slightly scuffed). Previous owner's name, dated 1880, on the front free endpaper.
