With 89 Color Plates
Studies in Microscopical Science [Volumes I and II]
Notes: The first two (of four) volumes of Arthur Cole's short-lived periodical that published essays on scientific studies illustrated with color lithographed plates. Volume I has 53 plates and volume II has 36 plates.
Cole, as Arthur C. Cole and Son, sold commercial microscope slides. This edition is "much enlarged and in great part re-written" from the 80-odd page edition of 1884.
333 pages in volume one; volume two with each section paginated separately; about 250 pages.
Edition + Condition: A very good set, half bound in morocco and marbled paper-covered boards. Outer joints worn. The two volumes are different colors, perhaps as issued by the publisher. The spine decoration appears identical in both volumes.
Publication: London: Bailliere, Tindall & Cox, 1883–84.
