Barks worked for the Walt Disney Company for six or seven years in the 1930s and early 1940s, working on Donald Duck cartoon shorts. After he left Disney, he continued to write and illustrated Donald Duck comic books. Like most of the Disney comics artists, his work was anonymous but his distinctive style led fans to identify him as the "good duck artist." His work was an early influence for R. Crumb and other underground cartoonists as well as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
