[History of the People from Hiroshima Prefecture in the U.S.] Zaibei Hiroshima kenjinshi

Notes: "The standard history of the Japanese from Hiroshima Prefecture in California, Washington, and Oregon. Provides summaries of each state and locale, statistical data on population, birthrate, distribution, and monetary remissions, and histories of local Prefectural Associations and other institutions, Two-thirds of this volume consists of a Who's Who. Appendix I is a list of Hiroshima notables; appendix II is a directory."—A Buried Past, 320.

"The first part...describes the history and current conditions of people from Hiroshima Prefecture. The latter part includes an extensive number of introductions of people from Hiroshima in the United States. The book also has a directory."—Japanese American National Museum bibliography, 175.

The Who's Who includes thumbnail halftone photographs of many of the 750 (or so) men and families profiled in the section. The biographies, mostly two per page, but extending to two pages for the most prominent people, offer a history of the subject's immigration to the US, details of their business or profession, their family, and comments on their character, like "He is a very popular person" or "Although he is a small man, he has a very strong and thoughtful mind when it comes to business" (translation by your cataloguer). The directory provides the given and family names for each head of household, organized by locations within Hiroshima Prefecture, subdivided down to neighborhoods within the cities.

[Foldout lithographic reproduction of a calligraphy dedication], 16, [24 pages of halftone plates plus a double-sided fold-out plate], 20, 698, [6, colophon and ads] pages.
