Notes: This is the first American hardcover of the 9th Travis McGee novel, which was first published as a paperback in 1968. This is one of the scarcest Travis McGee hardcovers.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). This is possibly an ex-library copy, as there is glue residue on the rear free endpaper and remnants of tape on the boards and pastedowns (minor, but definitely there). However, the dust jacket is in near fine condition, probably preserved in the long-gone library jacket protector. This was noted collector Adrian Goldstone's copy, with his bookplate.
The dust jacket has the 971 code at the top of the front flap and the $5.50 price at the bottom, as called for in the Firsts bibliography of John D. MacDonald (no. 54).
