Goodbye to a River [Signed Collection]

Notes: Goodbye to a River, Graves' first book, is a beloved classic of environmental and conservation writing. Graves describes a three-week canoe trip down the Brazos River in Texas in 1957 to see the landscape before a series of dams were constructed on the waterway.

This collection, assembled by a Graves fan and housed in a custom black cloth-covered clamshell box, includes:

1. The first edition. A near fine copy in a like dust jacket. There is a bit of wear at the top of the spine and the spine is lightly tanned, but this is one of the nicest copies I have seen. It is signed by Graves on the front free endpaper.
2. The Book Club of Texas illustrated reissue, one of 550 copies, signed by Graves at the end of his new introduction. Fine.
3. John Graves and the Making of Goodbye to a River: Selected Letters, 1957–1960 (TaylorWilson Publishing, 2000). A fine hardcover copy, no jacket, as issued. Signed by Graves.
4. A brochure for the Southwestern Writers Collection with a photograph of Graves taken during his Brazos River trip on the cover. Signed by Graves on the cover. Fine.
5. Remembering John Graves, 1920–2013. A memorial chapbook, published in an edition of 250 copies. Fine.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing) of the original book and all other items. In a near fine clamshell box. A one-and-done collection of this important Texas book.

Publication: New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1960.
