English Book Prospectuses: An Illustrated History
Notes: A survey of book prospectuses issued in England from the seventeenth century to the late 20th century. The book is illustrated with 24 facsimiles, ten in the book and fourteen printed separately and inserted into a small paper portfolio.
Printed by noted printer and bookmaker Henry Morris in an edition of 325 copies.
109 pages, with ten facsimile prospectuses (some 40 pages, I would guess) included in the pagination.
Edition + Condition: First edition. A fine copy bound in quarter leather and paper-covered boards with a floral design. The book and paper portfolio are inserted in a paper-covered slipcase, as issued. The slipcase is slightly creased at one corner. This copy includes a prospectus printed on pink paper from the 1870s (not all copies do—Morris ran out before completing the edition) as well as sheets made by Morris for other projects. This copy is complete with all 14 facsimile prospectuses, the Note from the Printer, and a copy of the prospectus for this book.
