I Am Charlotte Simmons

Notes: A long novel of college life.

676 pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, with a numberline ending in 1). A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. While not especially scarce signed, this copy has a terrific inscription, one of the best I've seen in any Wolfe book. It was signed for the San Francisco restaurant owners Ed and Mary Etta Moose, with whom Wolfe was friends for decades. A 1996 New York Times article (April 10) about the Mooses' restaurants reported, "Some specialties aren't on the menu. When in town, the author Tom Wolfe orders Day Boat Scallops, caught daily and rushed back to Moose's kitchen." That will explain the inscription in this copy:

"2004 was a VERY good year... Sheila and I made it back to Moose's and the incomparable Ed and Mary Etta's table just in time to meet Captain Henry's day boat. We love you kids! Tom Wolfe." Wolfe drew a moose head around the word Moose's.
