The Painted Word

Notes: Wolfe's acerbic take on Modern Art.

121 pages.

Edition + Condition: First edition (stated first printing). A very good copy in a near fine dust jacket. Board edges faded as usual.

This copy is inscribed to Ed and Mary Etta Moose, who owned the Washington Square Bar and Grill in San Francisco. A 1996 New York Times article (April 10) about the Mooses' restaurants reported, "Some specialties aren't on the menu. When in town, the author Tom Wolfe orders Day Boat Scallops, caught daily and rushed back to Moose's kitchen."

The inscription reads, "For Ed and Mary Etta with thanks for Happy Days on Washington Square and environs! Tom Wolfe."
