Presentation Copy

Voice of the Fire

Publication: Atlanta / Portland: Top Shelf Productions, 2003. First US edition.

Notes: A double-signed copy of the first novel by the author of the Watchmen graphic novel. This is one of 500 numbered copies of this novel, signed by Moore and the illustrator, José Villarrubia.

This novel is an interconnected series of stories that take place over six thousand years in Moore's native Northampton, England. It was first published in paperback in the UK in 1996; this is the first American edition and the first hardcover edition.

Introduction by Neil Gaiman. 2: [limitation leaf], xiv, 284 pages, plus twelve color plates not included in the pagination.

Edition + Condition: First American and first hardcover edition (states "First U.S. Printing, October 2003"). Corners bumped, thus a very good copy in a like dust jacket. This is copy 7 of 500, signed by Moore and Villarrubia.

This copy is additionally inscribed by Moore, seemingly to a friend: "For my dear mate Donald—a handful of your home turf to pick over. With love and best wishes always. Alan Moore." It seems likely that this is a presentation copy, one of Moore's own copies given to his mate (the basis for this conclusion is the warmth of the inscription, the low limitation number, and the fact that this is an American edition inscribed to someone in the UK). Moore does not sign a lot of books, and good inscriptions are very scarce.
