Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A very good copy in decorative cloth; presumably lacking the dust jacket. This copy is generically inscribed by the author, "With best regards, Laurence Schmeckebier. September, 1951" on the half-title page. This copy has the ownership signature of the writer and critic Selden Rodman on the front free endpaper and his marginal notations in ink throughout the book. In the 1950s, Rodman became particularly interested in Latin America and Latin American art, publishing a number of works on the subject and assembling a notable art collection.
