Notes: This pamphlet explores the influence of indigenous languages and English on the Spanish spoken in New Mexico and Colorado, as well as the impact of Spanish on the English spoken in the same region. The paper concludes with a short survey of New Mexican Spanish folklore.

Espinosa (1880–1958) was probably the most prolific Latinx writer of the first half of the 20th century. He was born in Southern Colorado and grew up speaking Spanish and English. He was a leading expert on Spanish folklore and language in the American Southwest and was a professor at Stanford University.
