The Hurricane
Publication: Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1936. First Edition.
Notes: A copy of this follow-up to the Mutiny on the Bounty trilogy inscribed by James Norman Hall. The novel is set on a small, fictional French colony in the South Pacific. The plot revolves around an escaped Polynesian convict who returns to the island.
John Ford directed the 1937 film adaptation which starred Dorothy Lamour and Jon Hall as Polynesian lovers.
[6], 257, [1:blank] pages. Dust jacket by N. C. Wyeth.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, stating "Published February, 1936" on the copyright page, with no indication of later printings). Top edge spotting, the cloth spine has faded and reacted with the dust jacket, which has tanned where it touched the cloth. The front free endpaper has a darkened area where a newspaper clipping was probably once laid in as well as a previous owner's name. The jacket is somewhat spine faded, has some spots on the rear panel, and wear at the corners. The original "new novel" belly band is present. It has a fold down the center of the spine suggesting it was once stored inside of the book (which would explain the even sunning to the jacket spine).
Inscribed on the second half-title page, "for Mr & Mrs Hazard from windy Jimmy Hall."
