Notes: The first US and UK editions of Crews's sixth novel, from the collection of his friend and fan, Tom Garner. This pair of books is housed in one of Garner's distinctive black-cloth clamshell boxes.

The American edition is inscribed, although I can't quite decipher Crews's handwriting: "From what I hear, Tom, seems like you ought to be a Georgia Grit, Best Harry Crews."

The UK edition is signed on the title page.

Adapted for the 2006 movie starring Paul and Michelle Williams. According to the Ahearns' bibliography, the first US edition was about 5,000 copies. The UK edition would have been substantially smaller.

Edition + Condition: First editions (US stated, UK with "First published and no additional printings on the copyright page). The American edition is very good in a very good dust jacket with bumping at the spine ends, a small lamination scar on the front panel, and some dampstaining visible on the back of the jacket. A review slip is laid in. The UK edition is very good, with a dent to the top of the rear board that has cracked the paper; the dust jacket is near fine.
