The book launched Crumley's acclaimed hardboiled detective series and established his reputation.
Edition + Condition: First edition (stated; first printing with numberline ending in 2 per Random House's style at the time), accompanied by the publisher's original review slip. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket with slight sunning to the board edges, as typically found. Signed by Crumley on the title page. This copy comes in a custom black cloth clamshell box commissioned by the collector Tom Garner.
