First Instructional Book with Colored Photomicrographs

Methods in Microscopical Research: Vegetable Histology

Notes: An uncommon guide to preparing botanical specimens for the microscope, with a general introduction to the subject followed by detailed recipes for slide stains, illustrated in color. According to the Science Museum Group website, this "is the first work of its kind to include coloured photomicrographs to illustrate research methods."

Flatters was a co-founder of Flatters & Garnett, suppliers of microscopical equipment and preparations for educational use. The firm made lantern slides, microscopic slides, and microscopic preparations. He also lectured on microscopy at the Municipal School of Technology in Manchester, England.

x, 117 pages plus 23 color plates from photomicrographs, with printed keys on the tissue overlays. Large octavo: 7-1/2 by 9-3/4 inches.
