Sailor Song [Trade + Proof]
Publication: New York: Viking, 1992. First Edition.
Notes: A novel set in Alaska in the near future, in a run down fishing community of native Alaskans and refugees and misfits from the lower 48.
These came from the collection of the late collector Tom Garner, who attended book signing events with Kesey in 1992 and 1994 and who sent books to Eugene, Oregon, for signature. This pair, housed in one of Garner's black-cloth clamshell boxes, is a first edition with a review slip and press release laid in; accompanying that book is an advance reading copy (ARC) in decorative wrappers.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, with a numberline ending in 1 on the copyright page). A near fine to fine copy, signed and dated 1994 by Kesey on the first page. The ARC is very good with a coffee splash along the fore-edge. Tom paid $40 for this copy unsigned and apparently sent it to Kesey who signed the half-title and stamped it with a multi-colored frog design modeled after the traditional art of the Haida people. A Key-Z COA is laid in.
The slipcase has faded to gray at the spine. It looks fine on the shelf; the color difference is mostly visible when you take it off the shelf.
