This book won the Coretta Scott King Award and it was issued with a Laura Ingalls Wilder Award sticker, which Hamilton had just received for her lifetime contribution to children's literature (she has also won the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award).

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing, with a numberline ending in 1). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. This copy is signed by both Dillons on the title page and by Hamilton on a publisher's bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper. Hamilton has also written "Her Stories" above her signature. Scarce signed.
