Copy #1
The Face That Must Die
Publication: London: Macdonald, 1989. First US edition.
Notes: Number 1 of 100 signed copies of the first unabridged publication of this grim novel—considered one of Campbell's best—told mostly from the point of view of a serial killer.
The book was first published in a heavily edited paperback edition in the UK 1979. This hardcover version, from the short-lived but acclaimed Scream / Press, is the first American and first complete edition. It includes an introduction by Robert Bloch, illustrations by J. K. Potter, and an essay (At the Back of My Mind: A Guided Tour) and a previously unpublished short story (I Am It and It Is I) by Campbell.
This is one of 100 numbered copies in a slipcase, signed by Campbell and Potter.
[limitation leaf], [4], xxxvi, 217, [1:blank] pages.
Edition + Condition: First complete edition (first printing). This is no. 1 of 100 signed copies. The book is fine; the black jacket has small color breaks at the corners but is otherwise fine, as is the slipcase. The slipcase has a small paper label with a matching number 1.
