Relaciones de los vireyes del nuevo reino de Granada... Estados Unidos de Venezuela, Estados Unidos de Colombia y Ecuador

Notes: A collection of eight reports from the Virreyes of Nuevo Granada (modern day Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador), compiled by the then-Minister Plenipotentary of Colombia, stationed in Washington, DC. García y García collected these reports in South American and brought them with him to the US. Working with Ignacio Gómez, he prepared them for publication. From the beginning, readers complained that the book was poorly copyedited, with many errors in the names of people and places, which the editor acknowledges on the errata page, noting that the copies of the manuscripts he was working with were full of mistakes.

A good example of a typical Spanish-language imprint from the mid-18th century, when publications by Latin American ministers in the US predominated.

xx, 705, [blank], [2] pages.

Edition + Condition: A very good ex-library copy, with withdrawn stamps on the title page and shelf marks on the spine. Publisher's original purple cloth faded at the spine. This copy is inscribed by García y García on the half-title, "Al Honorable Señor Don Tomás Gadea. Su colega, José Antonio García." The recipient appears to have been a Peruvian politician.

Publication: Nueva York [New York]: Imprenta de Hallet & Breen, 1869.
