The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Notes: The collected graphic novel edition of the first six installments of this fantastical story of Victorian England. Somewhat overshadowed by Moore's landmark Watchmen and V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a stand-out series from the late 1990s. It won the Bram Stoker award for best "illustrated narrative" and was adapted into a film starring Sean Connery.

"In keeping with Moore’s usual practice, the scripts for The League were extraordinarily detailed and precise, yet, as with the best of Moore’s work, the collaboration between artist and writer was instrumental to the success, with O’Neill’s detailed and edgy style adding a lot to the period setting and evoking the appearance of penny dreadfuls and other forms of nineteenth-century popular print culture"—Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel.
