Scarce Hardcover Issue of an Acclaimed Graphic Novel

American Born Chinese [Hardcover]

Notes: This is the scarce hardcover issue of the first edition of Yang's acclaimed graphic novel, which combines a story about a boy who is the only Chinese American student at his school with the Chinese myth of the Monkey King. This hardcover was available at Comicons and comic book stores, and it is quite scarce; the trade edition of the book was a paperback. After the book became a success, the publisher brought out a new hardcover edition.

This graphic novel won the Michael L. Printz Award from the American Library Association for best young adult book, it was a finalist for the National Book Award, and it earned an Eisner award. Since this book was published, Yang was awarded a Macarthur "genius" grant and served as the Library of Congress's ambassador for young people's literature (sort of the poet laureate for kids).

233, [vii] pages. In color throughout.

Edition + Condition: First edition, hardcover issue. A fine copy in illustrated boards with a cloth spine.

Publication: New York & London: First Second, 2006.
