Japanese Women and the 1893 Columbian Expo

[Japanese Women] Nihon no fujin

Notes: A Japanese version of "Japanese Women," an English-language publication of the Japanese Woman's Commission for the Columbian Exposition in 1893. That book described the role of women in Japanese society and had separate chapters on politics, literature, religion, domestic life, industry, arts, and charity and education. The present volume has the same chapter headings but has been rewritten to adapt the material for a Japanese, rather than Western, audience.

The illustrations, eight plates in the style of woodcuts appear to be the same in the two versions of the book. The present book omits the tables and musical notation included in the English version. This edition has a lithographed reproduction of a handwritten, four-page introduction that is not present in the English version.

[6], 4, 226, [1] pages plus eight inserted plates.
