TLS from the Creator of Thomas the Tank Engine
Typed Letter, Signed, about railroad research by the author of Thomas the Tank Engine [TLS]
Notes: A half-page typed letter addressed "Dear Robert" and signed "Wilbert Awdry" discussing Awdry's research in the archives of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway ("B'ham & Glos. Rly").
"The Birmingham (Working) Committee Minutes are fascinating, full of almost day to day incidents in the running of the railway, and plenty about J. E. McC[onnell]. Up to now I've reached June 1842..."
In addition to writing the beloved Thomas the Tank Engine series of children's books, Awdry (1911–1997) was an Anglican minister and a railway enthusiast. This letter demonstrates his commitment to research: eighteen more years would pass after he wrote this letter before his book on the history of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway would be published.
Edition + Condition: Folded for mailing. Short note initialed "W.A." added at the bottom of the letter; the recipient also notes in ink that he had acknowledged the letter.
