Notes: One of 300 signed and numbered copies of the first hardcover Walking Dead graphic novel.
The Walking Dead, running to 194 comic books collected into 32 trade paperback graphic novels, 16 hardcover volumes, and then 8 "omnibus" editions (color versions are also planned), and adapted into two TV series, several novels, and a video game sequence, has taken over popular culture much like the series' zombies have taken over the world.
Early on, the publisher offered a small edition of just 300 signed and numbered copies of the hardcover graphic novels, and then stopped offering them after volume 4. These are undoubtedly the scarcest of the Walking Dead graphic novels, which have now been printed in millions of copies.
This volume collects the first twelve issues of the monthly comic book. At the back of the book is a short sketchbook section showing preliminary drawings with Kirkman's introductory text followed by several pages of color illustrations. These "extras" were not included in the comic books or the paperback graphic novels.
288 pages. Black and white, with a few color pages at the end of each volume. 7-1/2 by 11-1/4 inches.
Edition + Condition: First hardcover printings (stated). A fine hardcover copy in illustrated boards (no jacket, as issued), numbered and signed by Kirkman and Adlard on a tipped in illustration page.
Publication: Berkeley: Image Comics, 2006.
