Notes: An albumen photograph, 4-7/8 by 7-7/8 inches, of students and faculty of the Occidental Mission School on the steps of the First Presbyterian Chinese Church in San Francisco. The image shows nearly fifty small children in Chinese-style dress, along with older men and women, both Anglo and Chinese.
The class teacher, Emma Cable, helped found the school in 1878 with funding from the Six Companies, an umbrella group for the major Chinese regional associations in San Francisco.
This view is captioned in the image in a narrow strip along the bottom of the print. This image is listed in Taber's ca. 1889 catalog of photographs available at his gallery.
Edition + Condition: A very good image with a U-shaped crack around the face of one small figure. The original green mount has been trimmed close to the image.
