The Japanese American artist Miné Okubo, who had published an illustrated account of life in the internment camps, Citizen 13660, a few years before, reinterprets Hokusai's iconic image The Great Wave off Kanagawa for the cover and provided small line drawing vignettes for the opening of each chapter.
