[The articles of customs which the Venezuelan writer and naturalized citizen of the United States D. Simon Camacho, nephew of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, has published in New York, are faithful photographs of American life, and finished pictures that occupy a distinguished place next to the rich productions of D. Felipe Pardo and D. Joaquín Vallejo (Jotabeche).]—A. Quito, 1884.

A collection of essays, written in the late 1850s and early 1860s, some touching upon the Civil War, and one, "Las faldas en consejo" [The Skirts in Conference], about the women's rights movement. Some of these essays may have appeared in Spanish-language newspapers in New York. A rare example of a book by a 19th century Latino writer who became a naturalized US citizen.

364 pages plus a publisher's ad page and an inserted portrait frontispiece. Howes US-iana, C794.

Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). The front board is slightly faded, the book is otherwise very good or better. The frontispiece is inscribed, perhaps by the author. Judge for yourself. A few pages are spotted and stained—an early owner may have read this while eating.

Publication: Nueva York [New York]: Imprenta de "El Porvenir" 1864.
