Binder's Copy in a Slipcase
The Emerald
Publication: Los Angeles: Sylvester & Orphanos, 1980. First Edition.
Notes: The first separate edition of this story, which originally appeared in Esquire magazine. The edition was 330 copies, signed by the author. This is one of the more attractive S&O books, with vibrant green foil stamping on the covers.
40 pages.
Edition + Condition: First edition (first printing). A fine hardcover copy. No dust jacket, as issued. This copy is signed by Bartheme but not numbered; where the number should be is the handwritten word, "Binder's." This copy is housed in a slipcase seemingly made for the book, suggesting the work of a binder. The Barthelme bibliography in the Ahearns' Author Price Guide makes no reference to copies in slipcases.
