Real Estate Opportunities in Alphabet City, NYC, in 1847

Valuable Property in the 11th Ward of the City of New York to be sold at auction by George B. Rollins on Thursday 25th March 1847

Publication: New York: Miller's Lith. 1847.

Notes: A real estate map of a portion of Alphabet City in Manhattan that was razed to build the Lillian Wald Houses.

The map shows properties for auction on 5th Street between Lewis and Mangin Streets (remnants of those streets remain lower in Manhattan). The map shows Tompkins St. as the east boundary of the city, but I suspect that was a notional rather than an actual street as it is crossed by a public pier that is the continuation of 5th Street to the east of Mangin St. There is also an outpost of Bishop and Simonson's Ship Yard running along 6th Street.

OCLC records a single example at the New York Public Library.

Lithographed. 17-3/8 by 10-3/4 inches on a somewhat larger sheet.

Edition + Condition: Linenbacked. A bit of toning, very minor areas of loss, a few closed tears, but generally a pretty decent copy of a very uncommon map.
